Products

In Finland, the heating of buildings is estimated to generate more than one-third of the country’s annual greenhouse emissions. A significant proportion of these emissions is caused by heat escaping from buildings. The most efficient way to reduce greenhouse emissions is to construct new buildings that are low-energy or passive-energy, and to renovate old buildings so that they are more energy efficient. Using SPU insulation boards, low-energy renovation and passive energy construction are viable with the existing structure thicknesses. Over the lifecycle of a building, which can be more than 100 years, this saves an enormous amount of energy.

Our product development aims to bring even more energy efficient structures and materials to the market. We work in close collaboration with Tampere University of Technology, and we have implemented dozens of research projects.

Use of wind power in our operations

The use of wind power is rapidly gaining ground around the world. Each of us should now turn our words into actions if we really want to respect basic environmental values. SPU Oy is the first Finnish SME of standing to follow through on its promises. We have started the exclusive use of wind power in our operations. The use of wind power in all of SPU Oy’s operations began on 22 February 2000, the Finnish name day for Tuuli (the word for wind in Finnish, and also a proper name), and is still continuing. By 22 February 2008, we had already used 6 million kWH of wind power.

Recycling and reuse

SPU insulation boards are packed onto reusable pallets and protected with a recyclable packing hood. At the end of a building’s lifecycle, the SPU insulation boards can be reused as, for instance, frost insulation.
